In the case described here the need to preserve the intact residual dentine was a crucial issue in deciding to leave the majority of the preparation intact. The use of an intelligent and modifiable composite system was essential if this case, where the shade of the preparation had changed intraoperatively, was to be treated successfully. Amaris (VOCO) enabled the destroyed tooth volume as well as the contours and optical tinges to be restored with just one intelligent system with which unpredictable intraoperative aesthetic complications are easily overcome.
Aesthetic rehabilitation of patients demands simplified treatment procedures with predictable results. The presented case series shows a technique for simple and safe augmentation and development of a soft-tissue pontic support with connective tissue transplantation. After taking a precise impression, the augmentation is first simulated "realistically" on the model and the definitive pontic developed. When introduced immediately after surgical augmentation, it then shapes the healing soft tissue optimally.

Dental pharmacology differs in important points from general medical pharmacotherapy. Treatment is nearly exclusively acute and the number of drugs employed is manageable. As a result of demographic changes, however, the number of elderly and multimorbid patients is increasing steadily, which has an effect on dental treatment and requires that the treating dentist understands the action and side effects of certain medication. The current status of dental pharmacology is discussed below in detail and the relevance of different drug groups for routine dental clinical practice is presented.

More and more children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Besides the familiar general medical consequences, such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, and psychosocial difficulties, overweight can also lead to dental problems. According to recent studies, there appear to be associations between obesity and caries or erosions; periodontitis and overweight too appear to interact. The authors discuss the studies and explore possible shared risk factors for obesity and dental diseases.
The potential of digital technologies appears inexhaustible: piece by piece the digital chain for fabricating dental prostheses is being closed. The digital workflow in the production of a complex implant-borne prosthesis is illustrated below using an actual case. The authors focus on the dental workflow, including another element in the digital workflow mosaic: use of customized abutments.
The following article describes the case of an aesthetically and functionally demanding partial crown restoration with the new zirconium oxide-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) as an alternative to classic lithium disilicate ceramic. The manufacter's information about the materials used in the treatment of this case are integrated into the article.
The beaming Hollywood smile of some film stars is a particulary obvious example: their perfect teeth remain eternally young and often have a completely unnatural appearance. After all, everybody's facial features alter as they get older, and our teeth also continue to change throughout our lives. In this way, the small characteristic quirks of our teeth that develop over the years also help to make us unique. The author has been a committed dental technician for 25 years, working extensively in the area of age-appropriate restorations.
