Dental Health with Obesity in Childhood and Adolescence
Tschammler, C. / Wiegand, A.
More and more children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Besides the familiar general medical consequences, such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, and psychosocial difficulties, overweight can also lead to dental problems. According to recent studies, there appear to be associations between obesity and caries or erosions; periodontitis and overweight too appear to interact. The authors discuss the studies and explore possible shared risk factors for obesity and dental diseases.
