Dental Pharamacology Update
Halling, Frank
Dental pharmacology differs in important points from general medical pharmacotherapy. Treatment is nearly exclusively acute and the number of drugs employed is manageable. As a result of demographic changes, however, the number of elderly and multimorbid patients is increasing steadily, which has an effect on dental treatment and requires that the treating dentist understands the action and side effects of certain medication. The current status of dental pharmacology is discussed below in detail and the relevance of different drug groups for routine dental clinical practice is presented.
